Description :

The Pinot-Blanc is produced on the domaine from a blend of Pinot-Blanc (35%) and Auxerrois (65%) grape varieties. Auxerrois originates from the Pinot-Blanc (just like Chardonnay) but are actually quite different and complement themselves well. Auxerrois usually has less acidity, ripens to higher alcohol level and is more aromatic than Pinot-Blanc, therefore a blend of the two often results in a nicely balanced wine. These grapes are grown on the Rotenberg vineyard in Wintzenheim and Herrenweg area in Turckheim. The earlier ripening gravelly soil of Herrenweg will bring power and aromatic intensity, while the cooler limestone in Rotenberg will bring structure and more ageing capacity. The 2019 shows an ideal ripeness and balance and fermented dry. Unfortunatly these grapes tends to be looked down in Alsace, but have the capacity to produce superb wines on good quality vineyards.

Tasting Notes :

2/2021:  pale yellow colour. The nose shows medium intensity with nice white fruit aromas (yellow plums, pears) and some complex mineral influence. More restraints than discreet, the palate has good intensity and is quite imposing with a serious dry velvety texture. Nice finish, quite salivating and definitely worth keeping, the 2019 Pinot-Blanc is arguably a great success, and such a pleasurable wine.
