Tasting notes
Pinot Gris Grand Cru Rangen 2000
Bottled in September 2001, alcohol 14.9°, residual sugar 43 g/l, ageing potential up to 2026 and more... The nose is deep and powerful, marked by aromas of candied fruit (apricot, fig, citrus), wax and honey. The residual sugars are perfectly blended and give a lovely velvety sensation. This wine has acquired a fullness that it will retain for a long time to come.
Pair with...a cheese platter, or if you prefer dessert, a quince or pear tarte tatin.
Pinot Gris Grand Cru Rangen 2007
Bottled in September 2008, alcohol 15°, residual sugar 22.5 g/l; ageing potential to 2026 and beyond... 2007 is another one of those exciting vintages that demonstrates the benefits of biodynamic viticulture. The nose now displays a harmonious combination of terroir aromas (smoky, flinty) and ripe fruit (peach, apricot). Initially elegant and almost round, the palate reveals a powerful wine. The residual sugars are present on the palate, but are kept to a minimum thanks to a very fresh acid presence that lightens the structure of this wine.
Pair with...a veal tajine with apricots and almonds.
Pinot Gris Grand Cru Rangen 2017
Bottled in February 2019, alcohol 14.4°, residual sugar 1.6 g/l, ageing potential until 2042 and beyond... The palate is enveloping and rigorous. Very saline on the finish, with tannins that almost give it the structure of a red wine. Very long finish. What a Rangen!
Pair with... a porcini risotto, or a chicken supreme with a creamy mushroom sauce...
