Description of the wine Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Goldert 2019

The Goldert Grand Cru is a beautiful terroir of Oolithic limestone located on the town of Gueberschwihr, south of Colmar. The slope gradient is gentle and it’s east facing is less sun drenched than many other Grands Crus in the region. This gives the vineyard a late ripening character, reinforced by a soil warming up slowly. As the grapes are also less exposed to the sun’s rays, the Goldert topography therefore helps to preserve the aromatic finesse of the grapes. The aromatic grape varieties, Muscat and Gewurztraminer, are the most represented on this beautiful terroir. The 2019 grapes were harvested very healthy, without any presence of noble rot often visible on this vineyard. The wine was able to ferment quickly and the result shows a classic barely sweet balance, of great concentration because also produced from modest yields.

Tasting notes

02/2021 : Pale yellow colour. The nose elegantly expresses aromas of ripe white fruits (plum, vine peach) and a lovely spicy, almost smoky expression. The mouth is full-bodied and generous, finishing on a discreet mellowness with a beautiful length. The tannic structure seems more marked in 2019, probably related to the fact that this Goldert is less sweet than usual. It is a racy wine that will age admirably.
