Description of the wine Pinot Blanc 2014
This wine is made from the usual blend of Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois grapes (35%/65%)originating from both Herrenweg vineyard (50%) and Rotenberg vineyard (50%). Many people do not know the Auxerrois (it is its real name!) is a descendant of Pinot Blanc, just like the Chardonnay. Both vines are very similar and are often mistaken between themselves. The later ripening red limestone of the Rotenberg brings structure and acidity; the warm precocious alluvial Herrenweg brings richness and aromatics. The fact that in 2014 we had very hot and cooler periods, both ripeness and acidity level were perfect and it was easy to obtain the perfect balance for a dry wine.
Tasting notes
09/2015 : Bright pale yellow colour, Expressive delicate nose showing white fruits and flowers (pears, lilies…). There is a sense of purity and lightness on the nose, so the attack and middle mouth come as a surprise. The wine quickly coats the palate, shows an ample structure reinforced by great acidity. The limestone influence is more perceptible on the finish with beautiful salivation and a good sense of minerality. Very dry, no sweetness, no harsh acidity either and a feeling of good ripeness: it is a very enjoyable wine. 2/2016: the nose much more open and expressive of ripe yet balanced pinot grapes. The palate is ample and shows the limestone influence. Beautiful dry finish. It will keep well but is now delicious to drink. Some aeration will increase the intensity of the wine.
