Description of the wine Riesling Clos Windsbuhl 1997
The Rieslings are planted in the most stony part of the Clos Windsbuhl vineyard, on the Muschelkalk limestone. The wines have always a strong acidity and mineral austere aromas, extremely developed in 1997. This Riesling was the last vineyard to be harvested in 1997 (31/10/1997) at the end of the period of good weather. The result is a wine having a tremendous complexity, typical from fine calcareous soils. Long ageing potential.
The Clos Windsbuhl of Hunawihr
The altitude of the vineyard coupled with Hunawihr’s tardy climate means that the Clos Windsbuhl is often one of the last of our vineyards to be harvested. This explains the aromatic quality of the Clos’ wines and the consistent balance of acidity, a guarantee of good ageing. Although often harvested late, the Windsbuhl grapes are only rarely botryitized, doubtless due to the altitude of the vineyard, but nevertheless often reach high levels of maturity.
