Description of the wine Pinot Noir Heimbourg 2023

The one and only red vineyard on the estate is located on the western slope of the Heimbourg lieu-dit in Turckheim. The Oligocene limestone terroir is rich in iron, ideal for the maturation of tannins, and its western exposure allows late sunshine on the grapes. Although planted in very high density (9000 vines/ha), the harvest is very often tiny. In 2023, the Pinots family benefited from extraordinary climatic conditions and, for once, we were able to pick a normal harvest size of beautiful grapes in perfect health. The grapes are destemmed by hand. The berries ferment in an open vat with very little pumping over or punching down. The wine is taken off the skins after 12 days of maceration and finishes the fermentation in a large cask before being eventually racked in 228l barrels that have already had wines before. Ageing in barrels until bottling 16 months later. For this vintage, we are looking for a wine with an elegant, lacy structure, without excessive concentration.

Tasting notes

01/2025: Intense bright red colour. On the nose, the wine is still closed when opened and shows a slight reduction. It evolves very well over time, even after a few days, and reveals an aromatic palette of red fruits, undergrowth, spices, black cherry. The palate is elegant with a silky texture. The tannins are not aggressive but still present on the finish. This wine has a beautiful freshness and show great drinkability.
