Description of the wine Riesling Heimbourg 2024
The Heimbourg is a small, 7.5-hectare vineyard in the village of Turckheim. From its summit, facing west towards the Munster Valley, it overlooks the Clos Jebsal and the Grand Cru Brand vineyards. The slope is steep, and the steepest parts require working with a small caterpillar or even a winch. The Oligocene limestone subsoil is stony and shallow, making soil cultivation even more difficult. This is certainly one of the main reasons why this hillside was partially abandoned in the mid-20th century. During the 1980s and 90s, we took over the cultivation of 4.5 hectares of this hillside, planted primarily with Riesling on the lower slopes and Pinot Gris on the upper slopes. Turckheim enjoys an early-ripening climate, but the predominantly western exposure brings considerable freshness to the wines. The valley wind, like the north winds, plays a significant role in the maturation of the Heimbourg wines, which always retain a beautiful acidity. Like many wines from this vintage, the 2024 Heimbourg possesses a vibrant acidity and has successfully fermented all its sugars to finish dry.
Tasting notes
1/2026: Bright pale yellow color. The nose is still slightly closed but very pure and precise. Minerality is not an olfactory characteristic, but everything in the aroma of this wine suggests minerality on the nose. The palate is delicate, airy, and taut. Yes, this wine will need to be laid down! The acidity is mouthwatering, pure, and commands respect. The finish is citrusy, with lovely bitter notes enhanced by the wine's very dry character.
