Description of the wine Riesling Heimbourg 2004
The Riesling was planted on the steepest part of the Heimbourg vineyard, facing south and south west). This warmer and quite precocious site allows the Riesling to ripen perfectly. The winds coming down from the Munster valley regularly swept the grapes, avoiding the development of most fungus, especially botrytis. The Riesling Heimbourg is often a very rich wine (this is the sweetest non VT Riesling in 2004), quite aromatic and elegant, from a deep marl/limestone soil. The fermentation was one of the slowest of the entire crop and lasted until November 2005!
Tasting notes
01/2006 : Even though it was only racked a few weeks ago, this wine already shows plenty of floral aromas, mixed with delicate petroly Riesling character (yes, mineral/petrol can be delicate!). The palate is rich, almost unctuous, with a delicate roundness, well balanced with the telltale 2004 acidity.
The Heimbourg of Turckheim
The wines produced on the Heimbourg are rich, opulent, often spicy and can include noble rot. The slower ripening of the grapes often produces wines that are aromatically expressive from a young age, contrary to its neighbour the Clos Jebsal with whom we have to show patience.
