Description of the wine Riesling 2005

This wine is a blend of plots in the Herrenweg, some young vines in the Rangen and some young Riesling vines planted on granite terroir, usually destined for Turckheim Riesling. Unlike the 2004 vintage, it was more difficult to fill the barrel with this wine, as yields were much lower in 2005. The cooler month of August explains the very good acidity present in the Rieslings. More surprisingly, the scorching heat of September and October failed to melt the acidity. Riesling was the slowest ripening grape variety in 2005, which was a good thing, as it enabled us to harvest Rieslings at ideal ripeness for dry wines like this one. This wine fermented rapidly over 6 weeks and remained on its lees until March 2006.

Tasting notes

01/2007 : The nose already reveals a lovely minerality typical of Riesling. Slight aeration reveals fruitier aromas. The palate is firm and dry, with lively acidity. The lower alcohol potential (especially compared to other Rieslings) highlights a delicate palate. Drier and firmer than 2004.
