Description of the wine Muscat Turckheim 2015
The Muscat grapes enjoyed a favorable flowering in 2015 leading to a potential good harvest. Unfortunately, the village Turckheim enjoyed particularly dry and hot weather in June and July, which made the berries stay quite small. Lots of grapes, but not as much wine as expected! This wine is made from grapes originating in the Herrenweg area (gravelly soil) benefiting from well drained soils which amplified the effect of the climate. Luckily, the Muscat d’Alsace (petit grain Muscat) is use to higher temperatures, especially the red coloured type. The change of colour was fast and homogenous, allowing for an early harvest and normal ripeness. The fermentation was normal and the wine finished very dry.
Tasting notes
9/2016: bright pale yellow colour. Delicate nose, quite open, showing elegant minty, menthol, white flowers aromas. The Muscat grape variety is well present but without the excessive character it can sometime have. The palate is fresh, lively and super elegant, very dry with a juicy elegant acidity. Showing medium power, the finish leaves the mouth clean and fresh. This is a very easy wine to drink and its delicate/complex aromatic profile will make it so easy to pair with fresh seafood, fish, salads…. Unexpected for such a hot year!
