Description of the wine Pinot Gris Roche Calcaire 2019

All Pinot-Gris vineyards located on a limestone geology on the Domaine have in fact a single vineyard status (Clos Windsbuhl, clos Jebsal, Heimbourg and Rotenberg). Most vintages, this wine is made from the young vines of Pinot-Gris planted in the early 90s on the Clos Windsbuhl. Some years, we decide to add some other vineyards. In 2019, the production of Clos Jebsal, Clos Windsbuhl and Heimbourg were added to the Roche Calcaire. These vineyards produced some very nice wines, but unfortunately not all ending up dry. In order to deliver not just a high quality wine but also a consistent style, we decided to blend them all together after they fermented individually. The final result is a wine that is barely off dry and carries a great acidity, something to be expected from such vineyards. Just like the single vineyard Pinot-Gris wines, we also felt that an extra 6 months of elevage on full lees would bring more character and complexity to the wine.

Tasting notes

02/2021 : Pale yellow straw colour. The nose shows the great pedigree of the vineyards it originates, delivering complex fruit aromas (peach, nectarines, quince….) as well as an underlying minerality. It is also quite showy at this young age and will continue to open up with time. The 2019 Roche Calcaire has a beautiful velvety mouth texture that shows great energy. The acidity brings harmony and make the wine taste actually quite dry and delicate.
