Description of the wine Muscat Herrenweg de Turckheim 2003
The gravely light soils of the Herrenweg accumulated the heat like no other vineyard on our estate. Ottonel is very fragile and not really designed to be growing under extreme heat. We had to be very selective and drop a lot of fruits at harvest time. Muscat d’Alsace comes from the south (Muscat de Frontignan) and likes heat and sun. This grape matured beautifully and quite quickly in 2003. Unfortunately, we produced only half of our usual crop in this wine.
Tasting notes
06/2004 : Rich, ripe but very dry wine. The fact that the acidity is lower than the past years makes the wine taste less dry. More nutty and fruity than the usual flowery aromas. Clear and ready to be enjoyed now.
10/2004 : The bottling has really improved the structure and allowed the floral character to show up: classic Herrenweg, very aromatic. Powerful palate.
The Herrenweg of Turckheim
The wines from Herrenweg of Turckheim are always very aromatic, advanced in their development and are always defined by a very ripe acidity and opulent fruit. The wines from Herrenweg are accessible and generous in their youth and although they are often best enjoyed at this stage can surprise 10 or even 20 years later.
