Description of the wine Riesling Gueberschwihr 2000
This wine comes from a blend of 8 different small vineyard around Gueberschwihr, mostly facing east or south and all located on classic rich limestone soils.
Tasting notes
12/2001 : The 2000 was able to be picked relatively early, keeping all the typical acidity and minerality of Gueberschwihr . The nose will still need some time to fully open, but the palate feels totally dry, with a zesty acidity and a normal to rich texture. The grapes were very healthy in 2000, so this wine should have a nice evolution over the next 10-12 years. Today, it is certainly a wine for seafood, river fish, light salad starters…
The Goldert Grand Cru of Gueberschwihr
The Goldert of Gueberschwihr is the only locality in Alsace where the geological substratum is composed solely of marine oolithic limestone. Traditionally, the majority of the Goldert is planted to Gewurztraminer and Muscat. These grape varieties are reputed for producing wines with great finesse, structure and a discreet, however complex, bouquet.
