Description of the wine Riesling Clos Windsbuhl 1998 - Vendange Tardive
This was our last wine to be harvested October 24th on our Domaine. The grapes were botrytised between 20 to 30%, allowing the production of a Vendange Tardive. The fine acidity, typical in this vineyard, and the quality of the noble rot helped to slow the fermentation and eventually stopping it, leaving lot of residual sweetness in the wine. It is a very elegant VT, delicate, and shows the classic waxy flavours.
Tasting notes
12/2001 : Thanks to a crisp acidity, this wine really fermented slowly to reach a real VT balance, keeping a large amount of sweetness. The nose is very aromatic, showing more Windsbuhl character than over-ripeness: intense waxy, mineral and exotic aromas. The mouth is unctuous and delicately balanced, with no extra weight, making it very easy to taste young, but also capable of good ageing.
The Clos Windsbuhl of Hunawihr
The altitude of the vineyard coupled with Hunawihr’s tardy climate means that the Clos Windsbuhl is often one of the last of our vineyards to be harvested. This explains the aromatic quality of the Clos’ wines and the consistent balance of acidity, a guarantee of good ageing. Although often harvested late, the Windsbuhl grapes are only rarely botryitized, doubtless due to the altitude of the vineyard, but nevertheless often reach high levels of maturity.
