Description of the wine Riesling Grand Cru Brand 2024

The Grand Cru Brand vineyard is in the village of Turckheim, at the end of the deep Munster valley, on a substrate of two-mica granite, or biotite granite on steep slopes. This type of granite is particularly interesting because the black micas can decompose into clay, and by migrating deep into the soil, they constitute a significant mineral reserve and considerably increase the soil's capacity to retain water, so precious in this terroir with its poor surface water content. Facing south, the Brand vineyard is an early-ripening and hot terroir (Brand means 'burning'). However, at nightfall, significant temperature inversion between the peaks and the Alsace valley floor causes cold air currents to sweep across this terroir. The temperature differences between day and night can be substantial. The Brand grapes in 2024 were harvested at peak ripeness, benefiting also from very old vines, and produced an intense, dry, and powerful wine.

Tasting notes

1/2026: Bright pale-yellow colour. The nose is still reserved despite its lovely intensity. The influence of the granite soil is clearly felt, closing the wine in on itself. The tension on the nose is almost palpable. The palate is vibrant, bright, and juicy. On the palate, the Brand reveals its sunny terroir, giving this wine beautiful intensity and power. A long finish is enhanced by ripe and delicate acidity. Made from perfectly ripe grapes, this wine is distinguished by its intricate, lacy structure. A great wine for ageing.
