Description of the wine Riesling Roche Calcaire 2024
The Roche Calcaire Riesling comes primarily from several small vineyards located in the village of Gueberschwihr, south of Colmar. A lot of them would be too small to be vinified separately. In 2024, it was necessary to harvest by making several passes (sorting) on the richest limestone soils planted with Riesling. The ripening was increasingly slower as the clay/marl content would be higher. It was important to monitor the grapes development daily. Therefore, we exceptionally also included in this blend some grapes selected from Clos Häuserer, Hengst, and Heimbourg. Fermentation was quite rapid for this cuvée, and the wine finished very dry rather early.
Tasting notes
1/2026: Pale yellow-green colour. The initial aromas on the nose are typical of Riesling (white fruits, citrus). This wine will benefit from a slight aeration (decanting), the wine will then reveal its classic limestone signature, where the aromatics evoke a form of minerality and typical tension. The palate is precise and shows a certain weight on the mid-palate. Although very dry, this wine has a silky and crystalline texture.
