Description of the wine Gewurztraminer 2002
All the grapes that make the gewürztraminer Turckheim come from the Herrenweg vineyard. We do actually only keep the older vines for the Herrenweg bottling (above 30 years old). The soil is made of light gravels, which enhance the varietal aromas of the gewürztraminer. In 2002, this vineyard was capable of producing exceptional ripeness and incredible high acidity levels. Fermentations were also very steady, often finishing with high, but harmonious, alcohol levels.
Tasting notes
01/2004 : The nose is very open, showing intense rose/geranium aromas as well as some spicy notes. The palate is powerful, very well balanced with great acidity. This is classic gewürztraminer !
The Herrenweg of Turckheim
The wines from Herrenweg of Turckheim are always very aromatic, advanced in their development and are always defined by a very ripe acidity and opulent fruit. The wines from Herrenweg are accessible and generous in their youth and although they are often best enjoyed at this stage can surprise 10 or even 20 years later.
